ONEHUNGA ORPHANS
1930 SESSION OPENED The inauguration of the 10th session of the Onehunga Orphans’ Club on Saturday evening was made more enjoyable by a large attendance of represents lives of kindred associations, in addition to local members. In the absence of the immediate past president, .Bro. Robert Buchanan, the ceremony of installing the presidentelect. Bro. R. G. Speight, was placed in the hands of past president Bro. E. V. Sutherland, who paid a warm tribute to Bro. Speight’s many services to the club since its inception. Among th€» visiting brethren were Bros. E. G. Foster and Burrows, of the Pukckohe Orphans’ Club; Bros. PI. S. TV. King and Captain Lacey, from Devonport; Bro. G. V. Pearce, Otahuhu; Bro. Brown, Northcote-Birken-liead; Bros. Minogue and Archibald, Taka puna; Bros. Geo. Plogan, P. Box and G. Scott, Tamaki; and Bros. Francis and Anderson, Papakura. . Bro. PI. S. W. King, Devonport, responded to th© toast of the visitors and the orchestra, under Bro. J. Lighton, contributed many enjoyable items. The president referred to the recent illness of his predecessor in office, Bro. Robert Buchanan, who, he said. \v? s now convalescent and would preside at the next meeting to be held on June 7. A good programme o; musical, instrumental and humoroLs items was given by Bros. L. Kernet, PL Pooley, J. B. Finlayson, G. G. McLennan, F. Sutherland. G. Wheeler. Claude Suisted and Alan McSkimming. Bro. Len Elliott acted as accompanist.
