Choir, Orchestra, Organ and Effects.

Columbia in that exclusive style that so fittingly characterised “The Trumpeter,” issued recently. We are taken to the rural scene of the blacksmith and his roaring forge. The birds are in full song and the church bells are ringing merrily; there is a homely greeting between two country neighbours, the neighing of a horse, and the melody itself is then brought in by the famous choir in rousing fashion. They are accompanied by the clinking of the anvil, and later we hear children’s voices shouting in high glee every time the sparks fly. Side 2 ushers in an exquisite organ passage. The village preacher then utters a stirring eulogy of the Smith. The “Old Hundredth” is then sung by the choir, and afterwards by an ethereally-girlish soprano whom we may take to be the Smith’s daughter. The record closes with the quietly devotional strains of “Now the Day is Over.” This wonderful record has been reproduced with a realism that will lure the listener on and on to the tad.
