WITH THE BOY SCOUTS

Scouts are reminded of the Proficiency Badge examinations, to be held at the West Street Church of Christ headquarters this evening.

Owing to the school holidays and the fact that many of the Scouts are away, the attendance at the troop meetings have been greatly reduced, and Scouting activities have been at a low ebb. Those who have attended are looking forward to the return of the absentees so that work may be carried on as usual.

A meeting of Sea Scout officers, at which Captain Woods presided, was held at Headquarters on Thursday, May 15.

The annual meeting of the Kitchener Troop was held at the Mount Eden Presbyterian Hall last Monday evening, when a committee was elected for the coming year. The Scoutmaster and Cubmaster reported on the past year’s progress and activities, and the evening concluded with supper.

Parents and friends of the boys were present.

Mr. L. R. Thode, Master of the Vindictive Sea Scouts, writes:—-

“Our usual weekly parade was held last Friday night. Owing to the weather the muster was poor. The senior instructed the Sea Cubs in knotting. All hands set to and cleaned up the Scout room. Mr. Foote gave the Cubs splicing instruction.

“Owing to the fact that nearly all our senior boys are beginning to feel uncomfortable in shorts, and that new blood is lacking, this branch of the company will probably be disbanded. It is not our intention to lose them, though. A suggestion was made that an Old Sea Scouts’ Club be formed in order that these boys can keep in touch with the movement, and be of assistance as instructors, etc. All are keen on it, and Vindictive intends to form the club. Ex-Sea Scouts interested should get in touch with the organisers through this paper.”
