SERIOUS SHORTAGE FEARED WAIPORI DAM EMPTYING Press Association DUNEDIN, Today. At a largely attended ' meeting of manufacturers and , citizens, held to consider the water shortage, the Mayor, Mr. R. S. Black, presiding, it was decided to support the City Council in its effort to reduce the non-essen-tial use of electricity. It was stated that the present supply at Waipori would only last a fortnight and that the only water then would be from the Waipori River. With a Deisel steam plant working in Dunedin there would be a shortage of 3,000 horse power daily. One proposal is to run the trams until nine in the morning, then stop them till 4.30 in the afternoon and stop them again at seven in the evening.
