GOVERNOR’S ANNOUNCEMENT
CONSIDERATIONS OF HEALTH LORD BLEDISLOE EXPRESSES REGRET DRAMATIC STATEMENT AT A LUNCHEON i JOSEPH "WARD, has found it necessary, on medical U advice, to vacate the position of Prime Minister of New Zealand. This message, which has caused me great regret, and which I am sure will cause regret to many here, was received by me this morning.” So said his Excellency the Governor-General, Lord / Bledisloe, speaking at the welcome extended to him at the Chamber of Commerce luncheon today.
' "Considerations of health have made it necessary for Sir Joseph to retire from public life and the duties which have been his for many years past,” continued his Excellency. your political views may be, I am sure you will all join with me in expressing the hope that he will live for many years to enjoy better health and the respect and confidence of the people for whom he has done so much. "Speaking as your Governor-Gen-eral, whatever may result from this rlecision, I can assure you that no political predeliction Will stand in the way of the welfare of the Dominion being the most prominent consideration in the events that may follow. ”
