MRS. E. SURMAN Mrs. E. Surman, of Sandringham, who died at the age of 6S years, was born at Esher, Surrey, England. She married in England and camp to New Zealand in 1913 with her husband and family. At the time of her death Mrs. Surman had been for 43 years actively engaged in missionary, temperance and Sunday school work. For tb p pa.-t nine 3'eurs she had been an invalid. She is survived by her husband, two daughters. Mrs. Thorpe, of Kingsland. and Mrs. Wooller, of Kohimarama: and two sons. Mr. W- T. Surman. of Whangarei, and Mr. E. J. Surman. of Harbin. Manchuria- There are three grandchildren. MRS. R. SHAW An old resident of the Franklin district. Mrs. Rose Shaw*, wife of the late Mr. Silas Shaw, died at Ramarana on Sunday. She was a daughter of tho late Mr. and Mrs. W. Bellingham. was born at Hokianga 88 years ago. Some 68 years ago she married Mr. I Shaw and they lived at Waiuku. On : one occasion they had to decamp hurriedly owing to a hostile party oZ Maoris having entered the district. l ln later years the family resided at Kerikeri and Flat Bush. Latterly Mrs. Shaw had been residing with sons at Bombay and Ramarama. Sh«* ; leaves two sons—Mr. G. Shaw, Ramarama; Mr. is. C. Shaw, Bombay; three j daughters. Mrs. M. Dodd. Onehunc.!; Mrs G.
