Auckland Crack in Work Again

GOLD JACKET’S PROGRAMME PREPARATION FOR N.Z. CUP Gold Jacket, the brilliant Auckland pacer, winner of many big handicaps, including two Auckland Cups is back at Epsom under the care of trainer L. McMahon.

The son of Gold Bell —Lady S has Ben in retirement since the concluon of the Auckland Christmas carniiil and, judging by his present robust,

healthy appearance, the pacer has benefited considerably as a result of the holiday. It is owner Parkes’s present intention to have his fine gelding specially prepared for the New Zealand Cup. and L. McMahon will attend to the work. Lqst year Gold Jacket, after winning the New Zealand Cup Trial of ten furlings at Wellington in brilliant style, was considered to have a rare chance in the Dominion’s principal event, but he failed, badly in his heat. It is generally conceded that a final work-out on the eve of the fixture at Addington got to the bottom of Gold Bell’s son. There is no disputing the black pacer's ability over any distance and, as he has done remarkably well on the training assigned him by L. McMahon, there is no reason why he should not again be produced in readiness for the great event. Gold Jacket will in all probability be driven in the Cup by J. T. Paul, while on the final day his mission will be the fast mile saddle in which it is likely Alan McMillan will be in the saddle.
