SUBSIDY DIVERTED
BALANCE-SHEET “TAGGED” From Our Own Correspondent HAMILTON, Today. The diversion of a Government subsidy to an improper use is the subject of a tag by the Auditor-General to the balance-sheet of the Mangawara River Board. At the board meeting yesterday the clerk pointed out that to finalise the works on the Lower Mangawara, the board raised £2,000, which proved Quite inadequate, the cost being £6,000 and it was necessary to utilise some of the Government subsidy earned in respect to works on the Upper Mangawara.
It was decided to endeavour to arrange for a validating clause in the ‘‘washing-up bill,” and to seek support from the Minister of Public Works.
