Two cases of incipient fires on the seats of motor-cars, caused by the sun's rays on the windscreens, have come to notice in Hamilton. In each instance the smoking' upholstery was discovered in time. Mr. .T. R. Fow. Mayor of Hamilton, who for some weeks has been touring the East Coast, has returned.
Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follow at the annual meeting of the Hamilton Domain Board on Tuesday evening:—Chairman. Mr. W. H. Paul; parks committee. Dr. H. Douglas, Messrs. R. C. Fowler and R. Parr; sports committee, Messrs. J. R. Fow, R. C. Fowler, D. Hay and J. McKinnon; finance committee, Messrs. Fow and Fowler. At the first meeting of the newly - elected Mangawaia River Board yesterday Nlr. J. G. Harvey was unanimously elector chairman. A resolution was passed that, subject to the approval of the Audit Department, an honorarium of £25 be granted him.
A proposal for draining the Hamilton Lake and laying out a miniature golf course in the basin was submitted by Dr. H. Douglas to the Domain Board on Tuesday evening. The idea was approved, but no action was taken.
A garage and car, ownd by Mr. Lang, billiard saloon keeper, of Cambridge, were extensively damaged by
fire on a vacant section at Matai Road Frankton, early yesterday, morning.
“Tt hoped during the coming year to deal with the question of noxious weeds on some of the unoccupied lands of the borough, but lack of funds prevents a thorough clearing of the whole area,” stated Mr. W. H. Paul, chairman of the Domain Board, in his report at the annual meeting on Tuesday.
Ducks are plentiful, and in good condition. and it is noticeable that the river is being worked by launches to a greater extent than in the past, states a report ' from Pirongia. There had the district.
Shooting enthusiasts report good bags in the- neighbourhood of Oliaupo. Around Lake 'Xgaroto there is plenty of cover for sportsmen, who have been present in tha.district in large sun:,beri lately.
