The committee set up to investigate the operation of the Shops and Offic- .s Act began hearing evidence at Wellington yesterday, when representatives of several local commercial firms wei ** heard. Further evidence ■will be taken today and tomorrow. The committee will then proceed t<» Dunedin nnd the balance of the Wellington evidence will be taken after the committee has heard that in other centres.
