MAJESTIC

“CARELESS AGE” AND “POINTED HEELS” One of the most dramatic stories yet told by the talking screen is seen and heard at the Majestic Theatre this week, where the First National-Vita-phone offering, “The Careless Age,” is on view. “The Careless Age” was adapted from John Van Druten’s sensational stage play “Diversion.” and this all-dialogue picture, which is presented by an allstar cast, is another victory for the talking screen. For “The Careless Age” is even more thrilling and entertaining than was the original stage play. Beautiful backgrounds. showing scenes in Dondon and at Dake Como, add to the interest of the picture, and the theatre sequence where Carmel Myers sings with an ensemble of very fine voices in the backgz-ound adds colour to the story, and beauty to the musical end of the picture. Miss Myers, Douglas Fairbanks, Jnr., and Loretta Young head the very capable cast in this picture. Fairbanks plays a young medical student who has a violent love aftair with an older and sophisticated actress (Miss Myers). It is one of the finest roles that this talented young man has yet played, and ono that reveals dramatic possibilities in Fairbanks that have not even been suspected in the past. William Powell fans and Helen Ivano. Fay Wray, and “Skeets” Gallagher followers are having the time of their lives this week, for they are enjoying the chance to see and hear their idols on the audible screen at the Majestic Theatre, where “Pointed Heels” is running merrily' on with its great plot, gripping pathos, rib-racking humour and ear-tickling songs. Powell is the suave semi- villain; Helen Kane is the vaudeville performer; Fay Wray is the beauitful girl from the chorus, who falls in love with Phillips Holmes, a young composer; and “Skeets” Gallagher is the fairhaired husband of the luscious Helen, who completes the comedy-team of Kane and Gallagher. The play is from a story which was published serially in recent numbers of “College Humour” magazine.
