STUDENTS’ SUNDAY
DAY OF PRAYER OBSERVED WIDESPREAD MOVEMENT Students in Auckland observed yesterday the day of prayer recognised throughout the Southern Hemisphere by the Student Christian Movement. A special service, held in St. Matthew’s Church, was attended by a large number of students in a body. Canon C. H. Grant Cowen conducted the service, the sermon being preached by the Rev. R. H. Hobday, who, after touching on the work of the British and Foreign Bible Society, spoke of the great progress that had been made in the past 20 years by the Student Christian Movement. This, he said, was yearly interesting more and more students in the Bible and religious questions. A tea was held at the Auckland University College, when Mr. R. Howie, travelling secretary for the movement in New Zealand, spoke on “Youth Movements, Past and Present.’’ There was a gathering of about SO students and ex-students of the Auckland Universit3' and the Auckland Training College.
