SHOP GUTTED
BRIGADE SAVES BLOCK AT HELENSVILLE OCCUPIER IS LOSER From Our Own Correspondent HELENSVILLE, Today. Ihe .work of the Helensville Eire Brigade probably prevented the destruction by fire early this morning o£ an important block of shops. Shortly after one o’clock, an outbreak in the stationery shop of Mrs L. Nicol completely gutted the premises. An adjoining grocer’s store, occupied by Mrs. Sellars, was considerably damaged and the fire would have swept through a number of stores in the block, which is situated in Commercial Road. Smart work was done by the brigade, because the flames had a considerable hold at the time of its arrival. The burning premises were in the centre of the block. Mrs. Nicol will be a heavy loser, although the premises are insured in the United Office and the stock in the New Zealand Insurance Company. The insurance on the premises occupied by Mrs. Sellars was placed in t.lio United Office. The cause of the fire is not known
