AUCKLAND ORPHAN'S CLUB
SUCCESSFUL YEAR RECORDED The report submitted at the 38th annual meeting of the Auckland Orphans Club, held in Scots Hall on Saturday evening, before a large attendance, stated that the membership had been well maintained, the total being 673, including 80 orchestral and associate members, and 16 life members. The season had been a most successful one, and the reputation of the orchestra, under the conductorship of Mr. Harold Baxter, was further advanced, the performances being much appreciated. The orchestra had paid visits to Rotorua and Paeroa. The death of the late secretarv, Mr. J. D Crawford, was recorded with deep regret.
The receipts, including last year’s balance of £sll, totalled £1,872, and expenditure £1,429, leaving a credit balance of £443.
The report and balance sheet were adopted.
Officers were elected as follow: Patron, the Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe; president, Dr. C. E. Maguire; vice-presidents, Messrs. .T. Stanton G P. Finlay, E. Casey, G. "W. Hutchison \. R. Meredith, C. M. Croft, G. Baildon and v. Noel Hubble; committee, Messrs. E. Winthrop, W. J. Lovett J P. Howden, J. Robinson, D. Melnn’ess and W. Peggs; secretary, Mr. D. W Dunlop; treasurer, Mr. C. Mountain-" auditors, Messrs. W. T. Brown and E. D. Elliott; conductor of orchestra, Mr. Harold Baxter: leader of orchestra Mr H. Sommervjlle; librarian, Mr. D. a'. Lunn.
Appreciation was recorded of the services rendered to the club bv the retiring president, Mr. J. B. j'ohnston, and wishes were extended to him for an enjoyable voyage on his projected trip to England. It was decided fc open the season on Saturday. May 3.
