MORRINSVILLE NOTES
Charges under the Alotor Regulations were brought against several motorists at Atorrinsville on Thursday. Mr. J. Bleakly, of Hamilton, who did not appear, was fined £ 2 for exceeding the speed limit. C. Edwards, a service car driver, was fined £3 for dangerous driving, and Keith Henry Blue was lined £ 5 on a charge of negligent driving. * * ❖ Misses C. C. Belsey, AL G. Gummer and G. V. Young and Air. T. N. Keeps have been appointed probationers to the Alorrinsville School. Three of these are Alorrinsville High School scholars. * * * Record entries have been received by the Alorrinsville Swimming Club for its carnival to be held on Alonday evening. A number of swimmers from other districts will compete, and diving exhibitions will be given by Miss Lily Copplestone.
About half the farmers of New Zealand are members of the Farmers’ Union, according to figures quoted by Air. A. E. Robinson, in reply to questions asked at a meeting of the Alorrinsville branch on Wednesday evening. The Dominion membership was about 18,000, while there were estimated to be about 40,000 exporting farmers. In the Auckland Province the union had between 6,000 and 7,000 members, or a third of the total.
A Cambridge motor-cyclist passing through Alorrinsville on his way to the Te Aroha sports on Anniversary Day had his holidays spoiled when his machine came in contact with the mudguard of a car just before reaching the Piako Bridge. He was thrown from his cycle and received a cut on the cheek and was badly shaken by the fall. Another cyclist brought him back to Morrinsville, where his wound, which wa.s not serious, was attended to. * * *
Canon H. R. B. Gillespie, vicar-elect of St. Alatthew’s (Anglican) Church, is expected to arrive in Morrinsville this week. The induction of the new vicar will be performed on Sunday afternoon by Bishop Cherrington.
