WAS OWNER PUZZLED?
While the connections of Zealous had backers bamboozled : on Saturday as to which events the black mare wou.d start in, it looks as if her party were a bit puzzled themselves in this direction. On paper, her best chance appeared to be in the Ruakaka Handicap, ten furlongs, but the owner of The Pointer mare elected to tackle the tighter and harder Hot Springs Handicap. While beaten into third place, Zealous ran a fine race, and it was only the last furlong that found her wanting. 1 Judging by this effort the Te Awamutu-trained mare should have been a nuisance in the shorter heat and probably would have paid a dividend.
