INCREASE OF INCOME

METHODIST MISSIONS BOARD WORK OF THE YEAR The estimated income of the Methodist Board of Missions for 1930 is: jsew Zealand, £ 15,000; and Solomon Islands, £4,500. The general treasurer, the Rev. G. T. Marshall, reported that the income for the year from all sources totalled £20,870. the Dominion Church being responsible for £16,161, a gratifying Increase over the amount raised last year. It is surmised that important returns from the Islands have been lost in registered mail matter which was stolen, but figures otherwise to hand show tho income from the native church to total £4,709, which is most encouraging considering the low price ruling for copra. In replying to a welcome extended by the president, the Rev. J. F. Goldie, to himself and wife and 30 other members from local and district circuits, the Rev. H. Voyce, who works in the large island of Bougainville, spoke of several interesting phases of bis work. It is estimated that in the Siwai district the native population is in the region of 20,000, some 18,000 being under a certain measure of Government control, and some 5 000 or more as yet untouched by Christianity Great opportunities for further service continue to offer, several cases of outstanding devotion and loyalty on the part of the natives being instanced Various resolutions affecting the staff were carried. .Mrs. Binet, who recently returned to her post, was thanked for her good work, and assured of prayerful interest of the members. Tho Rev. H. Voyce was recommended for ordination at the forthcoming conference, and Gina Belshazzer for reception upon probation. The meeting heard with pleasure that mo Rev. A. W. Silvester had offered for overseas- service, and that four students whoso training has been upon lines to fit them for missionary service, left Trinity College at the close of last year. The mi dical reports forwarded by Drs. Sayers and C. James revealed a chapter ol wonderfully successful activity. The confidence of the natives has established the medical work upon a very large scale. The amount in hand toward the erection of the Helena lA o'oo Hjßpital has reached nearly On behalf of the Women’s Missionary union. Mi s. b rank Thompson presented a lucid and encouraging report. Income and membership for the year have been well maintained. A steady growth has been registered In the contributions toward the erection of a native girls’ school. The thanks ol boiird were tendered to the womens Union and members were assured of support in their desire for representation at the annual church conference. Thanks wore also tendered to the members of the Bible Class movements tor their interest and support, particukirMy as affecting the medical work. At the request of the Y.W.B.C. rnovement Mrs. J. F.
