MINERS WOUNDED
SEVERELY MAULED BY ANGRY MOB VOLUNTEER WORKERS United P. A.—By Telegraph—Copyright Reed. 11.15 a.m. SYDNEY, Today. Remarkable scenes were witnessed at the Central Railway Station last evening following the arrival of a party of volunteer miners from Rothbury. Pickets attempted to molest the men, one of whom was brutally assaulted, and was sent to the hospital with severe scalp wounds. During stoppages at the mining towns en route to Sydney the volunteers were hooted and insulted by groups of miners gathered on the platform. Many volunteers upon arrival made a dash for waiting taxis, but Millard, the man who was injured, walked. He was soon struck down and kicked.
