TIVOLI

“THREE LIVE GHOSTS” The talkie success, “Three Live Ghosts,” which has been at the Civic, will this evening be screened at the Tivoli Theatre. There is not a weak character in the cast, while the actors in the title roles are certainly among the finest ever seen or heard on the screen. The story is off the beaten track, and is therefore the more welcome. There are three British soldiers, a Cockney, an American, and an English lord who cannot remember who he is. The Cockney has. a stepmother and a sweetheart. The soldiers are killed in action, according to the army records, but they arrive in London on Armistice Day, having escaped from a German prison camp. The stepmother, Mrs. Gubbins, has drawn the life insurance on Jimmie, and that causes No. 1 complication, for Jimmie wants to get an advance on his back pay. From this point there is one succession of amusing and at the same time unusual incidents, that keeps the audience in roars of laughter. In fact, the only words not heard are those which the laughter smothers. CRYSTAL PALACE, MT. EDEN “High Voltage,” which heads the double-feature programme at the Crystal Palace Theatre, is an all-talking film starring William Boyd. Boyd, it will be remembered, first sprang Into prominence by his work in “The Volga Boatman.” Other successes which he has since made have been “Lady of the Night” (in which he played with Lupe Velez) and “Skyscraper.” Carol Lombard is his leading lady in “High Voltage, and others in the cast are Owen Moore and Diane Ellis.
