ARCTIC AIR MAIL
CANADIAN PLANES START SERVICE TAKE-OFF IN “40 BELOW” Reed. 1.45 p.m. VANCOUVER, Tues. Carrying half a ton of mail, two planes of the Commercial Airways fleet hopped off from Fort McMurrav today, opening up Canada’s first Arctic air mail service. The planes headed for Fort Chipewayan and expected to make the trip of 300 miles in three hours. The take-off .was accomplished in a temperature of 40 below zero. A perpetual, cold haze made visibility only fair.
