EXPLOSIONS IN STUDIO SPREAD DEATH United P.A.-—By Telegraph—Copyright Reed. 9.5 a.m. NEW YORK, Tuesday. At least nine persons, consisting of five men and four women, were killed when a. series of seven explosions of unknown origin wrecked and burned a Rathe sound-film studio. Seventy-five people were in the building, more than 20 being all ready to start recording, when the first explosion occurred, being rapidly followed by six more. These persons attempted to rush the exits, as also did 50 lightly-clad girls from an upstairs dressing-room, but the swiftly mounting and spreading flamss prevented many from escaping. Large quantities of fire apparatus, also hmbulances, were rushed to the scene, but it was 25 minutes before the firemen were able to enter, due to the intense heat. There were scenes of utter confusion, women screaming and shivering with cold until they were sheltered I nearby.
