The Taumarunui Fire Board has resolved to accede to a request from the Borough Council that in future the fire alarrrf shall be used only as warning of fire. Considering a letter from the Transport Department with regard to calling a conference to deal with the Transport Act regulations, the Kaitieke County Council decided at its monthly meeting that it would not take action. The chairman, Mr. T. H. Crocker, remarked that there was nothing in the Transport Act to work on. Mr. W. The scholars show a remarkably fine esprit de corps, and the result of this mutual goodwill is shown in various ways tending to industrial activities. The school, tinder the headmaster, Mr. H. C. Wilson,.recently displayed an excellent range of articles made by the pupils, an exhibition of raffia work being particularly good. In order to defray the cost of a new fence on a portion of the sbhool grounds the older children have this season * planted out many thousands of onion plants, and when the crop is harvested the money will be used for the purpose stated. In his annual report to the school committee, .. the headmaster of the Taumarunui School, Mr. J. H. Lynskey,. stated that the roll in the primary department was 455, and the average attendance 315. Secondary: Roll number 134, average attendance 123. The Taumarunui Borough Council has resolved to protest again to the Railway Department in regard to proposals for erecting large advertising signals in the town. This is in reply to advice from the department that it proposed to erect such signs featuring a certain oil. The Domain Board lias written asking the Lands and Survey Department if the board has power to grant permission to the Taumarunui |ind Districts’ Winter Show Association to erect show buildings on the local Domain.
