KING COUNTRY VISITED
SIR APIRANA NGATA AT TE KUITI From Our Own Correspondent TE KUITI, Tuesday. The "Minister of Native Affairs, the Hon. Sir Apirana Ngata, arrived at To Kuiti on Monday evening, and on Tuesday morning received a ceremonial welcome at the Maori Pa, more than 100 natives being present. The Minister’s visit was for the object of inquiring into native leases, the development of native areas, and a general survey of the King Country regarding future settlement. After the official welcome the Minister received a deputation of settlers in connection with native leases. A visit was then paid to Oparure and Pio Pio. The Minister was accompanied by Judge MacCormick, of the Native Laud Court, who was chairman of the recent Native Leases Commission, and Messrs. P. H. Jones and T. M. Iletet, of the Native Lund Conlsolidation Committee.
