How To Keep Cool

USE OF ELECTRIC FANS

Not Expensive To Operate

The cool breezes of an electric fan keep the atmosphere of a room at a temperature just sufficiently cool to enable us to enjoy the amenities of life, and at the same time cause that movement of the air which is the basis of ventilation. The stuffy nights that often follow a hot and tiring day are not at all welcome, but by the simple medium of the electric fan the air is kept moving, and refreshing sleep is assured.

Every woman knows that cooking means heat, and the kitchen on a hot summer’s day is not the coolest place in the house. Yet the work must be done, meals prepared and cooked, if domestic bliss is to remain undistrubed. Why not install an electric fan in the kitchen? Of all the rooms m the house here is one that calls for venilation. Fixed up on a cupboard or other structure, on the wall, or in any other desired position, the presence of a silently spinning fan turns a hot and bothersome task into one of pleasure. Its cool breezes remove that suffocating feeling, and enable one to work in perfect comfort under conditions which hitherto w ere, to put it midly, unpleasant. Moreover, during the summer months and well into the autumn that kitchen pest, the house fly, becomes an unbearable nuisance. Yet directly we switch on the electric fan its air current quickly drives away the flies, thus ridding the kitchen and its workers of untold annoyance.

In any other room of the house the electric fan goes on silently performing its mission. In -the drawing-

'THE problem of how to keep the house properly ventilated and pleasantly cool during the hot weather is best met by the installation of an electric fan. It is really surprising how lew people realise the comfort to be derived from the handy little electric fan.

room the hostess is assured o£ the comfort of her guests, and afternoon tea is no longer a perspiring function —it is even said that the invigorating air stimulates conversation! In the library the fan enables one to read or write in comfort, and meals in the dining-room can be taken with joy. Those who use electric fans in the home quickly realise that their mission does not cease with -the summer season. They can be used for speeding up the drying of clothes; the drying of white shoes after cleaning; clearing away smoke and fumes from rooms and ventilating them quickly in the morning; drying fruit and vegetables; and stimulating the heat circulation from radiators. Another type of fan which has become very popular in the kitchen of the American housewife is the exhaust fan. As its name implies, it “exhausts” the bad air from the room. These are either fitted in the window frame or in the wall near the ceiling A more recent development of the electric fan is its use in conjunction with a device whereby ozone is blown into the room, or hot or perfumed air is diffused. One of the remarkable features of the pedestal electric fan is its low running costs; it can be run continuously for eight hours for one unit of electricity, and beyond an occasional oiling requires no attention whatever. It will thus be seen that the electric fan is not a luxury, but a necessity in every home, ana a most valuable aid both to health and comfort of the occupants.
