WAIPAPAKAURI CLUB MEETING NEXT MONTH There is not a great deal of racing in the Far North, but the few meetings held there are very popular. With the forthcoming holiday fixtures over, qwners and trainers will be directing their attention to the country circuit, commencing with Thames, to be followed at weekly intervals by the Bay of Islands and Waipapakauri meetThe programme for the annual fixture of the Waipapakauri Racing Club, to be held on the Waipapakauri racecourse on Saturday, January 25, is an attractive one, and should be the means of inducing many owners to give their patronage. There are seven races on the schedule for the forthcoming meeting at Waipapakauri, which are endowed with stakes amounting to £750, an average of over £IOO a race, which is rather good. Handsome Trophy Chief item on the race day is the Waipapakauri Cuiff of £250, one and a-quarter miles, with which goes a £SO gold cup, a splendid trophy for the fortunate owner. In addition the winning owner receives £l5O as his share of the stake. These fine cup trophies evoke the keenest competition, and this season’s Waipapakauri Cup promises to see a stirring contest staged for the benefit of the sportsmen of the North. The “second leg” is the Flying Handicap, of £l2O, six furlongs, the winner’s share of the prize being £9O. Then there is the Evans Memorial Handicap, of £IOO, six furlongs. The fortunate horseman to lead, home the winner of the first race is to receive a gold-mounted whip donated by Mr. H. G. Dean. The complete programme is as lows:—Maiden Plate, of £GS, five furlongs. Two-year-olds 7.10, others S.O; no allowances. Awanui Hack Handicap, of £65, seven furlongs. Waipapakauri Cup Handicap, of £250 (with gold cup valued at £SO), 1* miles. Kaitaia Handicap, of £65, six furlongs, for local horses. Flying Handicap, of £l2O, six furlongs. Beach Highweight Handicap, of £SS, one mile. For hurdle horsemen. Evans Memorial Handicap, of £IOO, six furlongs. Nominations for all events close with the secretary, Mr. N. McDonald, P.O. Box 10, Awanui, or with Messrs. Blomfield and Company, Auckland, at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8. Handicaps are due on January 18, and acceptances close at 5 p.m. on Monday, January 20.
