FREEZING-WORKERS
DOMINION AWARD SOUGHT EVIDENCE IN AUCKLAND The employees’ claim for a Dominion award for freezing workers, which commenced in Christchurch last month, was continued before the Arbitration Court today, when further evidence was called. The principal proposal of the employers was that slaughterhouse assistants should receive a minimum wage of Ss a day weekly. Tho union proposed that slaughterhouse assistants should receive a minimum wage of £4 weekly from November 1 to March 31 and £3 10s weekly from April 1 to October 31 in the North Island and £4 weekly from January 1 to December 31 in Canter-bury-Otago districts. Mr. W. E. Sill conducted the case for the union and Mr. F. V. Sanderson for the employers. Considerable evidence was called showing the rate of pay received by freezing workers during the past 12 months. (Proceeding.)
