Obituary
MR. H. T. WOOD One of the oldest settlers in Taranaki, Mr. Henry Thomas Wood, died on Sunday at New Plymouth at the age of 83. In 1860, at the age of 14, Mr. Wood joined the Taranaki militia and, owing to his knowledge of the country, acted as guide. Later he took a more active part and after operations, engaged in farming. He is survived by four son*' and two daughters. MRS. G. RAYNES Mrs. Gertrude Haynes, of Franklin. Road. Auckland, who lias lied at tlio age of 74, was born in Taranaki a daughter of the lute Captain J. It. Harrison, of the sSth Regiment. After the conclusion of hostilities in Taranaki Mrs. Raynes came to Auckland, and was educated at Mrs. Lewis’s. She married and went to Dargaville, •where her husband was in business, returning to Auckland about 45 years ago. Mrs. Raynes is survived by her husband one son, Mr. Charles Raynes, and three daughters, Mrs. O. A. Wynyard, Mrs. P. R. Tudehope anc Mrs. C. K. Tudehope. There are five grandchildren. MR. A HOLMES Well known in commercial circles throughout the North Island, Mr. Arthur Holmes died in Auckland on Friday at the age of Born in Wellington, Mr. Holmes joined the staff of the Bank of New Zealand at Wellington and was transferred to Wanganui as accountant and later to Woodville as manager. About 27 years ago he joined the firm of Abraham and Williams, Ltd., as secretary and later was manager of the North Auckland Farmers’ Co-opera-tive Auction*-ering Company. Ltd., at Whangarei. holding the position for i some years. While in the northern district lie was chairman of the Auckland Auctioneers’ Association. Mrs. Holmes died 11 years ago.
