QUEEN CARNIVAL

SPORTS QUEEN HEADS LIST TE KUITI SUCCESS A most successful Queen Carnival has been held at Te Kuiti in connection with St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. At tho church bazaar, which was concluded at tho Parish llall on Friday evening. Father Hunt announced tho result of the voting in the Queen Carnival as follows: Miss Ilinu Kawo (Sports Queen), 11,056 votes; Miss Zena Connell (Business Queen), 10,419 votes; Miss Nola Stott (King Country Queen), 6,031 votes. Tho crowning ceremony will take place on Friday next. The church bazaar was officially opened by the Mayor, Mi'. W. J. Broadfoot, M.P., who congratulated the stallholders on the good work done during the carnival, and wished them success with the bazaar. The stalls were in charge of tho following women: Fancy goods, Mesdames Kolleston, Rothery, McAvinue, Hogan and Sheehan; toys, Mesdames Kawe, Gunson and Lynch; drinks and sweets, Mesdames Adams, Mills, Thornton, Stott and Meuller; produce, Mesdames McNaught and Mullins. In the tug-of-war in connection with the bazaar, the prize of £lO was won by the Te Kuiti Lime Works’ team, of which amount £4 was donated to the bazaar funds. Father Hunt congratulated the winning queen, and also thanked the various committees and workers, both Catholic and non-Catholic, for their very generous support.
