MOUNT EDEN IMPROVES MOORE HELPS IN WATER POLO GAME Mount Eden, reorganised after its heavy defeat in the first round of the Auckland Water Polo Control Board’s competition, easily accounted for the likely H.M.S. Philomel seven in the second round at the Tepid Baths last evening. Harry Moore, the erstwhile general of the team, was prominent. North Shore ran University to a draw in a fast game and Parnell had little difficulty in beating the Waitemata B colts. MOUNT EDEN v. H.M.S. PHILOMEL A sudden attack by Mount Eden saw Moore send in a good goal. Philomel played warily after the attack and no score was added before half-time. In the second spell, Mount Eden was definitely superior, and, in its movements, had the advantage of speed. C. Witten flung the ball in goal, and, before the whistle, Moore showed his worth by scoring two good goals. Mount Eder.. 4; H.M.S. Philomel, 0. Referee, Mr. G. V. Thorpe. NORTH SHORE v. UNIVERSITY After steady battling in the opening stages, McKay for North Shore found a flaw in the defence and landed a goal. Several strong attacks by University led to a goal to McCarthy. After the interval, Vaile gained a nice goal for the Shore, but the advantage was short-lived, for Gillett, the solid Varsity player, flung in a good shot and made the game a draw. North Shore, 2; University, 2. Referee. Mr. P. Patton. PARNELL v. WAITEMATA B Parnell was much too astute against Waitemata’s colts, although the losers played pluckly. Wilson scored two goals for Parnell in the first half. In the second, he gained a third goal, and Noble also scored. Parnell, 4; Waitemata B 0. Referee, Mr. L. Brighton. The team to represent Waitemata A this evening against Ponsonby B, after Parnell Club’s carnival, is:—Cunnold, Ciark, Enwnght, Fairgray, Pettit, Honeyfieid, Lindsay, Leash, Perrin. Grammar plays Ponsonby A at a later date. MOUNT EDEN EVENT On Monday evening Mount Eden Swimming Club will conduct its first carnival of the season in Bellevue Road Baths, Mount Eden. Events on the programme are:—looyds interclub handicap, 440yds open handicap, 100yds breast-stroke handicap, 50yds novice handicap, 50yds boys’ handicap, 50yds girls’ handicap, 50yds club championship and open diving competition.
