11 DEATHS AT SYDNEY
METROPOLIS HAS TRAGIC WEEK-END SIX PERSONS DROWNED Reed. 10.50 a.m. SYDNEY, Today. Eleven persons met with violent deaths in the metropolis during the week-end. Six persons were drowned, four victims beiug children of from four to 16 years. * A tragic affair occurred at Fairfield where a mother and daughter were nearly drowned in attempting to save a younger child. But. for the prompt action of a man, there would have been three victims instead of one. Most of the tragedies occurred in creeks and waterholes. The hot weather caused thousands to flock to the beaches, where the life-savers had a busy time. At Maroubra, 64 rescues wire affected yesterday.
