INJURED JOCKEYS

GREEN BACK IN THE SADDLE GRAY’S PROGRESS Hector Gray, who received a broken collarbone when Ohincrauri fell in the Taumarunui Cup last Friday, expects to be in the saddle again for the summer meeting at Ellerslie. This fixture opens on Boxing Day. a fortnight from Thursday next. It usually takes a broken collarbone about three weeks to knit together, so that Gray will have to make the maximum progress if he is to fulfil engagements on Boxing Day. However, if it should be that he cannot ride on the openifig day at Ellerslie, he may be able to do so on the other days, for there is a good gap between, the four days’ racing being held on the Thursday (Boxing Day), Monday. Wednesday (New Year’s Day) and Thursday. Gray has not yet ridden at Ellerslie since he was granted his licence, but six weeks ago, and local sportsmen hope to see him in action at the forthcoming meeting. Southern Horsemen T. Green, who has made a good recovery from his accident, has been engaged to pilot Paquito in the Auckland Cup. He is also to ride Merry Damon at Woodville this week. C. Broughton, who was injured at Otaki. was discharged from hospital last wek, but it is not anticipated that he will be back in the saddle before Christmas. A. G. Murray, who injured the sinews of his right hand in the same upset, will likewise be out of the game till the holiday season.
