CRYSTAL PALACE, MT. EDEN
“Syncopation,” a delightful talkie musical extravaganza, having as its background the Broadway stage, is now at the Craystal Palace Theatre. Bobby Watson and Barbara Bennett play the leading roles, and are suitably cast as Benny and Flo, forming the dancing team of Sloan and Darrel. They reach Broadway in a specialty dance act in a new revue. The success turns Flo’s head and she prepares to sever her friendship with Benny when the revue fails, but changes her mind when she finds that he has signed up with the agent of 9. night club at a big salary. A series of complications offering bright entertainment follows, and the film concludes satisfactorily. The tuneful music in which the film abounds is rendered by Fred Waring and his popular “Pennsylvanians.” Some of the enjoyable numbers are the them© song, “I’ll Always Be in Love With You,” “Tin Pan Parade,” “Sweet Mystery of Life,” “My Inspiration is You,” and “Love Tales of Alsace-Lorraine.” A splendid budget of supports is screened. A few years ago Rupert Julian and Claude Flemming were stage actors together in Sydney. One drifted to comic opera, the other to the screen. Today both are under contract to Metro -Goldwyn- Mayer and Claude is completing a role in “Unholy Night,” under the direction of Lionel Barrymore.
David Buttler, Sue Carol and Nick Stuart experienced first aiiplane rid© while in Europe making the Fox picture, “Chasing Through Europe.” The three soon became accustomed to flying as that mode of transportation was repeatedly used in making the picture.
