FINE TALE OF AFRICA
Several o'.’ the dark-skinned natives seen in "Desert Nights.’’ Metro-Gold-tvyn-Mayer's starring vehicle for Me tro-Gold'vy n - May er, were born in the heart of Dark Africa, the locale of the: picture. One huge, towering sixlooter to whom Ernest Torrence speaks while starting on their trip through the desert, was at one time a native chieftain and a staunch supporter of the ‘Sun Worshippers," one of the primitive religious groups of the dark continent. In one respect “Desert Nights” features the sun. for, so far as any record goes, it shows for the first time on the screen a sunrise in all its entirety. To him this scene, Director William Nigh and his cameramen greeted the dawn 13 consecutive days, waiting for the cloud effects to be exactly right for photographic purposes. John Oilbert plays the starring- role in this new picture, while Mary Isolan is his leading lady.
