STEAMER OVERHAULED
MOERAKI DEPARTS FOR SYDNEY
LARGE SUM EXPENDED
The Union Company’s passenger steamer Moeraki, which had been undergoing an extensive overhaul at Auckland since she arrived here on October 26 from Suva, left this morning for Sydney, where she will re-enter the Sydney-Fiji service, leaving the New South Wales port tomorrow week for Fiji. Except when she was docked on Tuesday to have her hull cleaned and painted, all the work of her overhaul has been carried out alongside the Central Wharf. A large sum of money ! has been expended on repairs to her , hull, engines and boilers. Beyond a •general spring cleaning” of her j saloons, cabins and crew quarters, i little of the Moeraki’s furnishings re- : quired attending to, although the vessel is more than 26 years old and has j been used in almost every service run under the company’s flag. As the Maunganui leaves Auckland tomorrow evening for Sydney, the Moeraki only took mail from this port. In the Sydney-Fiji service the Moeraki is run under the auspices of the Australian United Steam Navigation Company.
