Glena Bay and The Taumarunui Cup

Macroom s Sprint Chance

Given lino weather, there is every prospect of the annual meeting of the Taumarunui Racing Club, opening at Taumarunui tomorrow and concluding on Saturday, being a pronounced success. The fields for tomorrow are splendid, and if the majority of them go to the post the racing will be more interesting than ever before on‘ this course. A start is to be made at 11.45 a.m. with the Trial Plate, in which no less than 21 accepted. Recent form points to the following having chances:

Antique, Biddy Comet, Measurer, Norval Tea, Nassau Lady, ParfiXit, Amour, Section, Searcher and Valquette. The final summing-up for each event is given further on. There were 12 paid up for in the Taringamotu Hack, the second race, and another six furlongs flutter. Good form this season has been exhibited by Partial Eclipse, Abbess, Snow Prince, Parfait Amour. Abbey Queen. Tuku, Rose Lupin and Ruby Dawn, and the favourites may come from this lot. The Cup With nine engaged in the Taumarunui Cup, and one or* two claiming later engagements, the field is not going to be a big one, but nevertheless it looks like being an interesting contest. Ohinemuri dead-heated with The Lover on the second day at Te lvuiti over a furlong less, and as the latter subsequently ran second and third at Takapuna the form was good. Macroom may effect a surprise, but she would possess a better chance in the shorter race. Wenday showed at Takapuna that she is liable to return to form, and she will stay the journey. Billikins may be •bothered by the journey, but Hakanoa may see it right out. The latter has not been lucky in his last few starts, and he can be given a better chance here in this small field. Glena Bay is now at his best, and he is liable to prove as good as his owner thinks he is. He showed brilliant form at Te lvuiti, and again at Takapuna, and he is the best stayer in the field. Patiently ridden he should really win. Glenstar is coming back into form, but Sir Burnett has not raced for a long time. Master Roley is not without a chance, but it is more than likely that he will be reserved for the hurdle race. It is a good field, with the best four probably Ohinemuri, Wenday, Hakanoa and Glena Bay. Smart Beginners With 21 accepted for in the Matapuna Hack, there is going to be keen interest in the barrier positions. * Nicely placed in this connection, the following will be given chances: —Partial Eclipse, White Ringlet, Awamutu, Pellettc, Abbess, Joy Germ, Flapperette, Antique, Snow Prince, Measurer. Nerval Tea, Pure Tea and Perennis. There are several speedy beginners in this

five-furlong dash, and the winner is j going to fie hard to find. The Manunui Hurdles will probably j draw the smallest field of the day. j There are six engaged at present, and ; it will resolve itself into u contest between Master Roley and Archccn. , with Spalpiko and Red Day to make j Most of those in the Matiero Hack are previously engaged. Bahama. . Terrapeen, Antique. Always. Tuku and Valquette may have the finish between them. The Sprint There are but seven engaged in the j sprint, the liangaroa Flying Handicap, and all but two claim earlier engagement. The newcomers are Marble King and Owairaka, wirile of the others Macroom. Billikins and Archeen can be recommended. Te Rapa trainer M. J. Carroll’s prospects of collecting the double with Glena Bay and Macroom are particularly bright. The day’s racing concludes with the Owhango Handicap. Glena Bay has a big weight, but if he is not further penalised will take some beating. Unoco has not been racing 'veil of late, and of the others Red Day. Cybelc. Abbess, Coll and Grand Arch may be the pick. . R. McTavish has been engaged for four of the events tomorrow, viz.. Marble King, Hakanoa. Abbess and Searcher. C. Goulsbro’ does F. Smith’s riding, which includes the mounts on Pcllette and Section. W. U. Jones and J. Conquest ride Parfait Armour and Measurer respectively. The following promise to come in
