The Countess of Orford will open a garden fete at the residence of Mrs. J. W. Tattersfield, Allandale Road, on Saturday afternoon. The fete will be organised by the Harbour Lights Guild in aid of the Missions to Seamen fund. There will be many stalls of useful and attractive articles for sale, and a Christmas tree for the children. The band of the Auckland Regiment, C.R.0., will play selections. ENJOYABLE RECITAL MISS ALICE LAW’S PUPILS A very enjoyable evening “At Home” was given by Miss Alice Law, L.R.A.M., and her pianoforte students in the Lewis Eady Hall. Bouquets of roses and carnations were presented by the pupils to Miss Law, who received her guests in a gown of ravenswing blue satin charmeuse with overdress of black Chantilly lace. Roses, ferns and tall arum lilies attractively decorated the stage. Included in the splendid programme were items by Misses Mamie Reid, Mary Nathan, Tweet Macindoe, Jean Batten, Rose Pritchard, Eva North - wood, Betty Gurr, Jessie Jolly, Lilian Martin, Eleanor Brownlee, David Bennett and Glen Johnston. A feature of the evening was the playing of a group of blind students. Miss Freda Nelson and Mr. Frank Sutherland assisted with vocal items. Among the audience were:—Mrs. C. G. Macindoe, Mrs. C. Competition winners were Mrs. Osborne, Mrs. Mahony, Mrs. Purdie, Mrs. Carson, Mr. Williamson, Mr. Carson and Mr. H. Osborne. Mrs. Osborne wore a printed georgette frock. LADY ALICE FERGUSSON’S FAREWELL The Alexandra Hall on Monday night was the scene of the Hamilton Women's Association farewell to her Excellency Lady Alice Fergusson. The hall was gay with streamers, the dais being delightfully banked with masses of sweet peas, stocks, lupins, and iris. The entrance hall was also very attractively decorated with bowls of lovely flowers. Lady alice fergusson was wearing- a beautiful gown of blue and rose flowered chenille velvet. She was accompanied by Mrs. Fow, the Mayoress. Her guard of honour was formed of Guiders under Mrs. H. Toombs, the district commissioner of the Girl Guides, and she was received by Mrs. 11. Valder, president of the Hamilton branch of the National Council, and Dr. de la Mare, honorary secretary of the council, and convenor of the committee of welcome.

Mrs. Valder, in welcoming her Excellency, presented her with a charming posy of pink and blue blossoms. Other speeches were made by Mrs. Jones, J.P., and Mrs. Duxfield, president of the Hamilton branch of the women’s committee of the Farmers’ Union.

Lady Alice, in reply, gave a pleasant little speech. She expressed her great interest in the wark of all women’s societies, and in her association with them she felt that she had always gained more than she had given. She told amusing little anecdotes of her experiences in women’s work in England, and particularly stressed her interest in the Plunket Society’s work and that of the women’s division of the Farmers’ Union, striving to brighten the lot of women in the backblocks.

She concluded her little talk by telling her hearers about her happy times in New Zealand, both in her girlhood and during the last five years. So happy had she been that had she not been a Scotswoman she would wish to be a New Zealander.

Then followed a pleasing musical programme, when songs were sung by Mrs, F. Bond, Miss Adele Bell (Pirongia), and Mrs. Scales (Morrinsville), the accompanists being Mrs. H. J. McMullen, Miss R. Bell, apd Mrs. Stringfield. A delightful pianoforte solo was played by Miss No.rah Valder. Hurlng the supper, the presidents of the different societies were presented to her Excellency. They were Mrs. G. R. Barnett, representing the Cathedral Guides and Girl Guides’ Association; Mrs. Vere Chltty, representing the committee of Girl Guides’ Association; M.rs. COT ENDOWED Before her Excellency went away, Hr. de la Mare, in a farewell speech, asked that a cot in commemoration of her visit that evening might be endowed in the maternity ward of the hospital.
