PAPAKURA METHODISTS

The annual meeting of the Papakura Methodist Church was held in the Methodist Hall last evening. The Rev. W. J. Elliott presided. Mr. Evans, circuit steward, pleaded for more enthusiasm in the church life and also referred to the generosity of Mr. Wm. Richardson, senr., in donating cushions for all the church pews. Mr. James .Seaton, treasurer, reported that the finances were in a healthy condition. Mr. A. Houghton, for the Sunday School, stated they had an average of 70 scholars every Sunday, but liad suffered from a lack of adult teachers. The Women’s Guild report was given by Mrs. HE. C. Baull, who intimated that as no sale of work had been held this year, the meetings had been mainly of a social nature. The direct giving effort had realised nearly £SO. Miss Edna Williamson, for the Girls’ Bible Class, said they had 20 members on the roll. They had attended district union meetings in Auckland and Manurewa. Elliott made a presentation of a china vase to Miss Ivy Richardson for her work in making cushions for the pews in the church and also making curtains for the stage in the hall. Mr. Richardson, senr., replied for his daughter. Mrs. R. H. Lever, Mrs. T. Dickey, Mrs. Springer, Mrs. E. Holms, Mrs. H. C. Baulf, Miss L. Mack, Miss I-I. Beams, Miss M. McConnell and Mrs. Hindmarsh, members of the choir, gave items during the evening.
