MOTOR-CYCLE EVENTS
RACING AT MANGERE HANDICAPS FOR SATURDAY New Zealand’s fastest motor-cycle riders will be seen in action on Henning’s Speedway, Mangere, on Saturday afternoon, according to entries received by the committee of the Auckland Motor-racing Club, which will control the four motor-cycle races. Fast times are anticipated, as the track is in excellent order. Twenty-two competitors will face the starter in the Alison Handicap, for which there are 23 entries. Ben Bray, the Whangarei speedster, has entered two mounts, and will race the ono he considers should do best considering the track surface. Percy Coleman, holder of the Dominion heavy-weight championship for the past seven years, will again be riding his Harley-Davidson machine. Reg. Ran by, who holds the 31-h.p. title, will be on his Indian. The remaining record holder, Cass Goodwin, 350 c.c. class, will not appear at Mangere on Saturday. Other champions will include Cyril Walker, who made a world record at Takapuna last year, but is now riding a different machine, and a number of cinder track experts, including A. Lemon and L. Coulthard. O. Shakespear, who will attempt to stage a come-back, is evidently regarded as a dangerous opponent by the handicappers.
