RESIGNATION WITHDRAWN BY SIR MAYNARD HEDSTROM

BY SPECIAL REQUEST From Our Oxen Correspondent SUVA, November 26. Sir Maynard Hedstrom, the senior elected member of the Legislative Council of Fiji, who recently resigned his seat oil the Executive Council has now withdrawn his resignation at the request of the Secretary of State. His resignation. which -was handed in on November 16. was due to a disagreement, with his Excellency, the Acting-GovernDr, the Hon. A. W. Seymour, following on a disagreement between the European elected members and the Acting-Governor over the education estimates.

It was considered that the policy laid down by the previous Governor. Sir Eyre Ilatson, should have been adhered to and Sir Maynard Hedstrom held that the Acting-Governor had cast a slight upon his personal honour by stating that he had been present hi a meeting of the Executive Council when the Estimates had been approved. At the request of the Secretary of State and the new Governor of Fiji, Sir Murchison Fletcher, Sir Maynard Hedstrom has now expressed his willingness to continue on the Executive Council.
