MAORI CONCERT

TOWN HALL PERFORMANCE The Rotorua Maori Choir and assisting artists gave a most enjoyable concert in the Town Hall last evening- The large attendance gave unrestrained applause for the talented troupe. Kxponents of the graceful poi and \ igorous haka excelled in their art, and the insistent clamour for more was gracefully and smilingly acceded to by the performers. In the Waiata Poi and Waka Poi there was a grace and charm that captivated the imagination. The lighting effects lent added txsauty to the performances. Ana Hato and Deane Waretini required little Introduction to the audience, for their musical voices were familiar to the gramophone public. But to hear them on the stage was a revelation, and they were favourites during the evening. The male quartet, Messrs T Morrison, G. Rogers, I. Hakaral, and Itotohiko Haupapa were splendid in unaccompanied numbers, the blending ■*f the voices and perfect harmonising being of outstanding merit. The final item, “E Pari Ra,” was given as a larewell to the audience. The piece conveyed the message that the periormers were happy because the audience had enjoyed the evening, but the -adness of parting made the last t arewell difficult. It was a touching and very beautiful scene. "God Save the King,” sung in Maori by the troupe, brought a memorable entertainment to a close.
