Bookie Fined £IOO After Police Raid
ACTING FOR CHIEF VISITOR FINED ALSO Arrested in a raid made this morning by Detective-Sergeant McHugh and Detective Nalder, John William Hopkins was fined £.IOO at the Police Court this morning. Mr. McHugh said that accused was a bookmaker with an extensive business. TTOPKIXS, a clerk aged 36, pleaded guilty to keeping the premises known as 10 Gladstone Buildings as a common gaming-house. Mr. McHugh said that lie understood Hopkins to be carrying on for a principal. “We’ll treat him as if we had tlie principal here,” remarked Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., imposing the fine. Herbert Edward Langridge, a salesman aged 40. pleaded guilty to being found on the premises and was lined The raid was carried out at 10.30 a.in. this morning and a quantity of betting material was found on the premises.
