MR. E. SHORTT SUCCEEDS “T.P.” ANOTHER LABOUR SEAT llritisli Official Wireless RUGBY, Saturday. Mr. Edward Shortt, a former Home Secretary, has been appointed President of the British Board of Film Censors, in succession to the late Mr. T. P. O’Connor. Mr. Shortt represented Newcastle West as Liberal member from 1910 to 1922. From 1919 to 1922 lie held the office of Home Secretary in the Liberal Government, and was before that Chief Secretary for Ireland. It is understood that the Labour candidate is likely to be unopposed in the by-election for the Scotland Division of Liverpool, where the seat was rendered vacant by the death of Mr. T. P. O’Connor. Mr. O’Connor sat as ail Irish Nationalist. His constituency contained a large proportion of Irish workers. Mr. Edward Shortt, who is a K.C., visited New Zealand some little time ago oil behalf of Sir W. G. Armstrong, Whitworth, Limited, in connection with the Arapuni contract.
