JUSTIFYING EXISTENCE
ST. JOHN AMBULANCE SERVICE PARADE IN AUCKLAND Light Auckland ambulance and nursing divisions, totalling 135 members, were inspected by the Dominion chief commissioner, Lieutenant-Colonel Geo. Barclay, 0.8. E.. on Saturday. The parade was superintended by Mr. C. J. Tunks, commissioner or the Auckland district, and Mr. F. J. Hutchinson, senior district superintendent. Addressing the corps. LieutenantColonel Barclay asserted that the brigade was justifying its existence in every way. He pointed out that on one Saturday afternoon during the winter, brigadesmen attending sports meetings rendered first-aid to between 500 and GOO cases throughout the Dominion. He expressed appreciation at the development of the cadet movement, and the fact that there were now several cadet ambulance divisions for boys in existence, while the first cadet nursing division for girls was recently formed at Wanganui. Extension of the association's activities was being aimed at, and it was hoped next year to include instruction for the prevention of accidents and a series of lectures on the subjects would be given in each centre. Warrants for appointments in the brigade were presented by LieutenantColonel Barclay and three years’ efficiency badges were handed out by Mrs. Barclay. The parade marched past, Colonel Barclay taking the salute.
