LUCK AT LAST
l/PSOM trainer J. S. Shaw has not been favoured with luck during the last two or three trotting meetings. His horses have [ been in splendid condition, but while several of them raced prom- I inently, the first certificate was not within their reach. On Saturday Shaw made strenuous efforts to turn tho tide, and he was decidedly unlucky with Arachne, who, after losing a street at l'-e start, finished well into third place. Then \ Warspite looked like winning the Papatoetoe Handicap, but two breaks saw him beaten into second money. Not to be denied, J.S.S. came back again in the Spring Carnival, and during a well-judged ] and confident race with Carmel, , ( scored a narrow victory, to pay a fine price and fracture the spell of bad luck. i •<
