MAORI ENTERTAINMENT
BIG CONCERT AT TOWN HALL Two touring mission parties of Maoris will combine in an excellently arranged native entertainment to be held in the Town Hall on Monday evening by the Methodist Maori Mission, _ .. Twenty-four items are listed on tne programme for the entertainers, and community singing, with the Rev. A. j. Seamer, superintendent to the mission, as chairman, will be conducted before the concert. The Rev. Tahupotiki Haddon will lead a Maori welcome. Choruses. solos by accomplished singers, poi dancing, hakas. instrumental items, stick games (tititorea). chants (karanga), and sign games (matemate) comprise a programme valuable as an entertainment and as an indication of Polynesian musical development. “Te Taniwha,” “The Ratana Hymn,” “Hine e Mine,” “A Polynesian Lament,” “Waiata Maori,” “E Pari Ra,” "He Pao Aroha,” “E Ihu e te Kingi Nui,” “Waiata Poi,” and "Home, Little Maori, Home,” are important songs. The entertainers, representative of every province of New Zealand, have been chosen from varied tribes. Items will also be given by Maori students of the Wesley College; members of the Auckland Maori Girls’ Club; and pupils from the King Country Maori Girls’ School. P. H. Toka (North Auckland), T. Ropata (Canterbury), Mori Erihana (Otago), W. Tainui (Port Levy), W. Perehama (Manawatu), H. Wereta (Wellington), A. Wanairangi (Taranaki), R. Moerua (King Country), Te Aho-o-te-Rangi Pihama (Waikato), and Hinerangi Hikuroa (Wanganui) are among the soloists.
