REV. CHAS. CHANDLER'S SERVICE RECOGNISED With the object oi linking up industry with tlio church, the Kov. Clias. Chandler, assistant City Missioner at Auckland will leave next month for Sydney to begin a social crusade mission. Opportunity was taken by menibeis of the Howard Penal Reform League last evening to bid him an official farewell. The president of the league. Mr. N. M. Richmond, presided. Mr. William Alexander and Mr. Maurice Gregory, members of the Society of Friends, addressed tho assembly of about 60, Mr. W. J. Jordan, and Mr. 11. G. It. Mason. M.P.’s. beiug present. Mr. Jordan paid a tribute to the prison work done by Mr. Chandler and mentioned that lie had been visited by discharged men in Wellington who had appreciated the help given to them byMr. Chandler. He expressed that hope also, that, eventually the Government in power, would make a whole-time job for an officer to keep in touch with discharged prisoners. If this desirable object were achieved, Mr. Chandler would be an admirable candidate for the office. Dr. Mildred Staley, Dr. Dukes and Mr. J. J. Sullivan were also present. Mrs. Sullivan sang two songs. The presentation was made by Mr. F. O. Cutten, S.M., and consisted of a volume of the great essays of all nations, with an inscription by Auckland social workers and signed by Mr. Richmond and Mr. Cutten.
