L.E FOYER’S PUPILS ARE PROMISING An unusually high percentage of most promising pictures are included in the attractive little exhibition of work by Le Foyer pupils which was open for tho last time today in rooms opposite Milno and Clioyce, Ltd. The principal of the school is Mrs. L. M. Pickering, a Parisian, whose husband was a member of tho New Zealand Expeditionary Force. She lias studied in both Paris and Antwerp. For tho past four years Mrs. Pickcr- ; ing has been taking art pupils in Auckland and her success has been both genuine and well merited. Several of her pupils have won honours in the Royal Drawing Society, London, and one lias had two pictures—a pencil portrait and a work in oils —hung by that society. Tho examples on display today re-p----resented the work of students from the ages of 13 to It). Master Jack Grantley, a young and enthusiastic pupil, has achieved a number of promising pencil drawings and several water colours, carried out under tuition, which are well worth examining. Among the older pupils the work of Gretta McGuire is excellent and her examples of portraiture show distinctly unusual ability. Her water colours include several charming illustrations for a book, “The Little Green Door.” Similarly attractive work is bv Bet tv Goldie. Leslie Elliot, Eva l Oswald. May Gilbert and many others.
