SEAMAN CAUGHT LEAVING WHARF FINED £2 FOR THEFT Caught coming off the wharves yesterday with his pockets bulging suspiciously, Thomas Francis William was charged at the Police Court this morning with theft. Ills pockets were found to contain tinned goods from the steamer Mako. Williams pleaded guilty to the theft of tinned foods, valued at 7s, from the Richardson Line of steamers. Sub-Inspector McCarthy gave the time of the offence as 6.30 in the evening The mans explanation was that he was taking the goods to some men on the Corinthic. It w cult to know what they should want it for,” he added. . •• “They take the stuff to get beer, commented Mr. F. K. Hunt S M im ; posing a fine of £2, in default 14 days imprisonment.
