AFRICAN TENNIS TEAM
MAY VISIT HI. NEXT YEAR Resulting from the negotiations abroad of Mr, G. Gore, a member of the Management Committee of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association, there is a possibility of a South African tennis team visiting New Zealand about 12 months hence. jyjß. GORE, who returned to New Zealand on the Rangitiki last week, was authorised before leaving the Dominion eight months ago, to negotiate with the South African tennis authorities for an international visit, and while over there he communicated with Mr. Thompson, president of the association, and other officials. The result is that correspondence has already j.assed between the Management Committee in New Zealand and the South African Association with a view to arranging the visit. At the time Mr. Gore was in Soutli Africa, most of the best players were in England for the big tournament at Wimbledon, a fiture which Mr. Gore himself was sufficiently fortunate to see when he arrived in the Old Country. If South Africa sends a team it will, he says, be representative of the best players the colony can produce. Commenting upon the Wimbledon tournament, Air. Gore said he saw there such a wealth of tennis talent as it would acquire a lifetime of travel to witness otherwise. He attended, as one of the delegates from New Zealand, the meeting of the Federation, which was representative of countries all over the world, and was also the guest at the social functions related to the fixture.
The junior championship of England was played at Wimbledon after the big events had been disposed of and Air. Gore had the honour, on behalf of New Zealand, of presenting the prizes, the chief of which was won by Jimmy Nuthall, brother of the former champion, Betty NuthalL
