BACKERS FARE WELL
SUN readers were well prepared for Gold Jacket's success in the New Zealand Cup Trial at Wellington, but they were certainly not expecting such a liberal price. If the public attendance at Hutt Park did not make the Gold Bell gelding favourite, stay-at-home punters made no such mistake, and local wool brokers would be well snorn as a result of Gold Jacket’s success. To add to the discomfiture of the merchants Padlock, who was also in demand locally, finished second. Had the event been decided at Alexandra Park this pair would have assuredly been first and second in ths betting order.
